The Imbarimba is an outdoor musical instrument designed to bring layered rhythm and melody into playgrounds and public spaces. Inspired by traditional African instruments, its unique layout combines elements of both marimba and kalimba, creating an inviting and visually engaging play experience. This system features 22 coated fiberglass bars tuned to two complementary pentatonic scales, with C major on one side and A minor on the other. This dual arrangement allows users to explore melody and rhythm with ease while supporting intuitive play. It encourages coordination, timing, and creative expression while also allowing multiple users to engage together in a shared musical experience. Built for durability, the system uses coated fiberglass bars and stainless steel resonators designed to enhance tonal clarity. These materials resist corrosion, UV exposure, and wear, helping maintain consistent sound quality over time. The resonators also amplify the warm, earthy tones, making the instrument effective in open outdoor environments. Ideal for parks, playgrounds, and musical gardens, the Imbarimba can be installed as a standalone feature or integrated into a larger outdoor music area. Its design supports inclusive play and encourages exploration through sound and movement.
